Vinyl Record On DJ Turntable

Miami's Marvelous Music Scene

Miami is one of the world's best places for getting down to live grooves!

Where is your favorite spot for live music?

Bardot is one of my favorite places for watching bands and grooving to something unexpected and intriguing. It’s a great venue for live music that’s intimate and personal with a vibe that’s totally different from anything you’ll find anywhere else in Miami. The Thursday night Living Room Sessions are always worth checking out. Best of all it’s just a hip‐hop away from my place!

Where’s a great place for a chill DJ set?

If you don’t want to deal with the monster dance clubs, but still want to enjoy a high‐quality DJ set or some world‐class electronica than my top choice would have to be The Downstairs at the Astor. After dinner it offers an eclectic, but always enjoyable music series curated by Winter Music Conference cofounder Bill Kelly.

How about Latin music? Where can I get my salsa fix?

Mango's South Beach is where it's at. Not only is it one of the hottest Latin clubs in all of Miami, but Salsa Mia School has taken over the upstairs as well! The offer rueda‐casino style lessons for all levels on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8‐10pm. On Wednesdays there is a social after the classes with an amazing Latin DJ, best of all, it's free! So while you're here, you might as well get your salsa on!

Where can I see some great jazz?

One of my favorite ways to start the weekend is with the live jazz at the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami Beach. If the weather is good then this is a phenomenally enjoyable experience which is totally chill and very hip. It's not at all stuffy and “old‐jazz” like either. Best of all, it's totally free, and the drinks are on the cheap side.

What about something more cultivated?

We’re super lucky because the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts is just north up Biscayne, and that has a truly world class calendar of performances all through the year ranging from classical heavyweights by the Miami Philharmonic to contemporary acts and even fun musicals (like Book of Mormon). The sound is impeccable, every seat's got a great view of the stage, and it's the best room in the city for classical music.

The Nightlife really is LEGENDARY in Miami!

Miami nightlife is not for the faint of heart. Heading out on the town at midnight is nothing special, in fact heading out any earlier is a waste of time. The best nights always seem to involve bouncing around town and a wonderful blend of great bands, incredible DJs and steamy dancing that always ends well past dawn. Check out some my top choices below or visit "Ask YVE" for more ideas.

For bigger shows and acts it's hard to beat Grand Central the downtown area’s best place for awesome sounds and spectacles. Most Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays you’ll find something fun going on either in the main performance space or their smaller upstairs performance loft The Garrett. You never know what you’ll be getting yourself into, but take a risk and you’ll probably discover your next favorite band!

If you’re looking to dance the night away to thumping electro beats then you can’t go wrong with Club Space. This cavernous warehouse space set the standard for over-the-top club scenes and its big and bold with a never ending flow of famous international DJs rocking a packed dance floor. The multi-floor space has lots of different spaces with different vibes including a chill rooftop terrace that’s perfect for cooling off between sets or welcoming the rising sun.
