Tacos & Tequila is the newest food outlet addition to come to Wild Dunes Resort. Tacos & Tequila is our vintage airstream food truck that now sits on the Sweetgrass Plaza offering street tacos, sides, Mexican-style beer, tequila, and mezcal cocktails.
Prior to becoming our new food truck, the airstream was a portable camper trailer, just as they are intended. An airstream was targeted for this outlet because of the nostalgic feeling most guests get when coming to Wild Dunes. This took about two months for the F&B team to find our airstream and it’s a 1961 Airstream that ended up coming from up north. The idea behind the renovation to make the airstream into a food truck was finding one that had a good exterior, to then gut the interior and fabricate it to the needs of our outlet, Food & Beverage Director, Brian Richards shared.
“I came up with the idea after COVID crippled our industry. The only way to operate a large resort like this is to come up with strategic ideas that use less labor to achieve the same goals,” he explained. “Do more with less was the name of the game and considering I had to use food trucks last summer, why not build our own.”
The inspiration for the theme of the food truck came directly from wanting to match our beach culture here on the Isle of Palms coast. “Coming from California, who doesn’t love tacos & tequila when at the beach, or for anytime for that matter?!” Richards said.
The menu is filled with lots of delicious choices to choose from for both food and drink. The best selling drink so far has been the Jalapeno Margarita, but Richards would also recommend the Mezcal straight or a smoky Mezcal margarita. On the food side, the team uses local made corn tortilla’s as the base, and then the fun comes from the culinary team. With a variety of tacos that are simple but well made, the best selling firecracker shrimp tacos are the perfecting pairing with a margarita. View the full menu and learn more here.
