PGA Professionals from North and South Carolina, along with three amateurs will tee it up at the Annual Wild Dunes Pro-Am January 7-8, 2020. The 36-hole stroke play event sponsored by Wild Dunes Resort and Club Car will be held at both Tom Fazio designed Links and Harbor Golf Courses.

The tournament format includes four-man best ball gross and net team competitions, as well as professional stroke play. Prizes are awarded to the top net teams, while professionals also compete for a separate purse. Players will use 75% of their USGA handicap, with a maximum course handicap of 18 allowed. PGA professionals may bring up to three amateurs. The professionals’ score will be used for each three-man team. Tee times will begin at 10:00 am each day. Maximum of 60 teams.

    Pro Tips to Take

The punch shot - The Links’ greens will be firm and twice the size, making it difficult to fly the ball to the pin. Make sure to land the ball 20 yards short of the green and let the ball run onto the putting surface. Links golfers favor the punch shot. Keep the ball back in the stance and use a three-quarter swing.

The chip putt - Simplify the range of shots you use around the green. The simplest of all these shots is the chip-putt. Take your normal putting set up position. The club should sit on its toe rather than flat, as it usually would. By intentionally striking the ball off the toe you can remove any check spin. The ball should land softly, as though you had tossed the ball under arm onto the green.

The lag putt - When faced with a long putt focus on your distance control more than your direction. Amateur players are less likely to leave putts five feet short or long verses five feet to the left or right. Envision a three-foot circle around the hole and practice hitting putts to get the ball within the circle. This drill will get you focused on distance control rather than the actual hole.
