Wild Dunes, Charleston’s Island Resort has had the pleasure of partnering with the Charleston Museum to provide guests with the opportunity to experience the culture and history of Charleston, all while staying along the beautiful coastline.
The Charleston Museum is America’s first museum and is filled with the history of the city and the Lowcountry. Its permanent exhibits include: Lowcountry History Hall, Becoming Americans, City Under Siege: Charleston in the Civil War, Natural History Gallery, The Armory, Early Days, Historic Textiles, Charleston Silver, and more, including a great selection of rotating exhibits.
The Museum is also affiliated with two of the most historic homes in Charleston. The Joseph Manigault House was home to rice planting and slave owning Joseph Manigault who was related to both Arthur Middleton, one of the South Carolina signers of the Declaration of Independence, and Charlotte Drayton, whose family owned Drayton Hall. The Heyward-Washington House was originally home to Thomas Heyward, one of the four South Carolina signers of the Declaration of Independence. It was also once occupied by George Washington during one of his visits to Charleston.
Our Cultural and Historical Charleston Museum partnership package offers the opportunity to experience the culture and history of Charleston, SC during your next beach trip to Wild Dunes Resort. The package includes resort accommodations in a Boardwalk Inn guestroom or Village suite, two adult Charleston Museum tickets, and the Charleston welcome amenity, with the option to add on youth tickets, child tickets, and Joseph Manigault & Heyward-Washington House tours.
We have also partnered up to offer two new and exciting Dune Bug Clubs selections. Our Explore the Shore is held on Tuesdays from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at the Grand Pavilion. Kids can become a nature detective and go for a wild walk with staff from the Charleston Museum. Learn to identify shells, track animals, and investigate fossils of the Lowcountry. All explorers will receive a hands-on activity to take home as well. And our Pirate Plunder is held on Thursdays from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at the Grand Pavilion. Blackbeard, Stede Bonnet, Mary Read, and more looted ships for treasure along the Lowcountry’s shores. Hear these stories and join the pirate crew to hunt for buried treasure. All pirates will be outfitted with a bandana and sword to keep.
