Wild Dunes Resort is committed to supporting programs and partners that share a profound respect for our changing natural environment. We engage with brands and organizations that are focused on conservation, education, and environmental stewardship.
Partnerships
The Resort works with local organizations including Center for Birds of Prey, Coastal Expeditions, Barrier Island Eco Tours and the South Carolina Aquarium, all of whom serve an integral role in offering conservation experiences to our guests. From beach clean-up endeavors to sourcing sustainable seafood, we infuse environmental stewardship into locally authentic guest experiences to drive awareness and education.
Practices
Our commitment to conservation is embedded in our practices, from emphasis on “lights out for sea turtles” during nesting season and “take five” beach clean-up messaging, to “sip for sea turtles” with donation-driving beverage purchases we find ways that impact conservation in our community, using it as a tool to educate guests and patrons and inspire change beyond the scope of our resort itself.
Sweetgrass Inn third floor rooftop is now home sweet home to six honey bee hives, managed by Wild Dunes Resort Director of Culinary Operations, Robert Frederick. The mission of the Wild Dunes Beehive project is to encourage practices that are beneficial to honeybees; engage and educate our guests and community; and to foster sustainability stewardship in support of our coastal environment.
Products
We understand that our purchasing power has the capacity to cause positive change in our community and are proud to support local and regional purveyors. The resort was an early advocate for removing single use plastic straws, eliminating 15,000 plastic straws annually. More recently, the resort partnered with PATH to bring the first certified refillable and 100% recyclable bottled water to Wild Dunes - packaged in a sleek and sturdy aluminum container. PATH seeks to bring the plastic crisis to the forefront, teach others to protect the environment, and provide options to reduce and reuse.
