Happy couples have been known to tie the knot at The Woodmark during all four seasons. But there’s something about summer—perhaps our exceptionally long days of sunshine—that especially attracts elated brides and grooms to the shores of Lake Washington.
With the new styles of the season appearing in our classic spaces and beautiful outdoor venues, we checked in with our Director of Catering, Brooke Gogerty, for some insight into what’s popular this summer in planning, fashion, and décor. Brooke joined The Woodmark team about two months ago with an extensive background in the luxury hotel industry, having served as Director of Catering at Hotel Sorrento, The Arctic Club, and Hotel 1000, and she had a lot to say about this year’s most sought-after trends.
Blush, champagne, and cream are the shades of summer, with touches of navy setting off the soft color palate. For the perfect contrast, adorn your ladies in blush gowns and gentlemen in navy tuxes.
Less is more when it comes to wedding décor. From the waterfront Olympic Terrace to the formal Lake Washington Ballroom, the lake is visible from every vantage and is eye-catching in itself. As Brooke says, “You don’t have to go over the top because the venue is so naturally beautiful. Think simple, classic touches.”
Shorter booking times have also become increasingly popular, with some couples reserving their venues just six months in advance. “We’re still getting leads for 2016, and it’s the middle of June,” Brooke says. “We’re also still getting the larger weddings of 250 guests, but we are seeing a lot more intimate weddings from about 75 to 150.”
As for accessories, welcome baskets filled with high quality products and thoughtful, local accents are the perfect adornment for dressing rooms like the Vashon and Bainbridge Boardrooms. You may also want to consider baskets for your out-of-town guests to give them a taste of Seattle.
Do-it-yourselfers, there is no need to stress about the details when it comes time to say your vows. Make sure everything is finished in advance, and on the day of, look to your wedding planner. “Explain to your vendors what your vision is,” Brooke says, “but trust that they are professionals and they will produce.”
With nine event spaces spanning nearly 9,000 square feet, the possibilities at The Woodmark are endless for soon-to-be brides and grooms. And with warmer temperatures and inspiring styles on the horizon, summer may be the perfect time to explore them.
