Wellness retreat in Kirkland, Washington.

72 Hours of Wellness on Lake Washington

There is something decidedly tranquil about the Pacific Northwest, from the verdant mountain ranges to the smooth surface of Lake Washington. Relaxation is second nature here, and when paired with the healthy lifestyle of a town like Kirkland, it becomes the perfect place for an inspired wellness retreat on the water.

Below, a three-day itinerary curated by Still Spa Manager Alyssa Boyce, including her choices for active pursuits and stress-melting spa treatments during your stay at The Woodmark:

Day One

Wellness weekend paddleboarding Lake Washington.

Your first day on the lake begins with 30 minutes of paddleboarding and 30 minutes of yoga on the dock to clear your mind and enhance your state of calm. The Woodmark’s fitness partner, Fly Fitness (located just across the plaza from the hotel), will guide your morning ritual.

When you are ready for breakfast, Carillon Kitchen (also in the plaza) offers a healthy and light menu with favorites like quinoa bowls and fresh, cold-pressed juices that will keep you coming back each morning with a daily rotating selection. Enjoy your meal with a spectacular water view before heading to Still Spa.

Inspired by the bounty of nature, the spa at The Woodmark provides a transformational sanctuary that imparts a sense of serenity long before your treatment actually begins. A dry cedar sauna, rainfall shower with aromatherapy experiences, and relaxation room – complete with champagne and truffles – await before your Energy Balancing Massage, Rejuvenating Facial, or one of many other restorative treatments.

“A lot of guests find the spa to be a place where they can completely unwind and de-stress,” says Boyce, “especially in the relaxation room in a dark, candlelit setting. It’s really calming.”

For your wellness retreat, she recommends a day package beginning with the results-driven Intraceuticals facial. (“Everyone really loves it in the fall when skin needs an extra boost of hydration.”) Follow up with the Luxury Manicure and Pedicure, which include extended massages, a sugar scrub, and paraffin wax treatment. Then, wrap up your visit with one of Still Spa’s most requested treatments, the encompassing Mt. Rainier Stone Revival.

“The treatment is one that we designed around the area,” says Boyce, noting that you can see Mount Rainier from the spa. It includes a hot stone massage with rosemary, ginger, cypress, and geranium essential oils to warm muscle tissue, a back scrub, and a gentle face massage with cool stones – all of which result in increased circulation and soothed muscles and joints.

Dinner is your choice of The Woodmark’s two restaurants, bin on the lake and Beach Cafe, where updated fall menus have recently debuted.

Day Two

Wellness weekend biking in Kirkland.

To best explore your surroundings, pick up a complimentary beach cruiser at The Woodmark’s activity booth and set out on two wheels. (The hotel also offers complimentary kayaks for lake excursions, weather permitting.)

There are endless bike trails and lanes in Kirkland, from the 5.75-mile Cross Kirkland Corridor, extending from Kirkland’s southern border through the northern Totem Lake district, to the cycling lane that takes you from the eclectic restaurants and shops of downtown to the beautiful waterfront parks of Juanita.

Along the way, you can stop for lunch at organic restaurants like DERU Market or Homegrown, then after bike ride, unwind at Urban Float. Kirkland’s own float tank spa specializes in sensory deprivation therapy. While suspended effortlessly in water and Epsom salt, your body will achieve a natural, restorative state similar to that of meditation.

Day Three

In the midst of summer or while snowshoe-clad in winter, hiking near Kirkland is always a rewarding experience with spectacular views of the Olympic and Cascade Mountains. Spend your last day on an easy hike up Rattlesnake Ridge (head to Upper ledge for the best view), or opt for a longer, more challenging route at Big Si.

Upon your return to The Woodmark, you can spend your afternoon lounging alongside the lake or step into Still Spa for a quick, last-minute treatment. (If you plan your stay in December, the spa will have seasonal specials like the Peppermint Aromatherapy Massage and the Luxury Peppermint Pedicure, as well as the annual Spa-La-La Event on December 20th.)

“Breathe, indulge, and be still is our motto at Still Spa,” says Boyce. “We hope that guests can relax and come away feeling rejuvenated, but also indulge in the many wellness activities in the area. Kirkland is a one-of-a-kind destination.”
