GARDEN SUMMER CAMP
Brought to you by: WASHINGTON OUTDOOR SCHOOL | ROSLYN
Camp sessions will have a theme and are like a life lab cultivating children's love of learning, healthy food, and nature through garden-based education, forest explorations, connecting with their local history and culminating with a community farm to table dinner. All sessions will explore the hidden delights & wonders of nature by discovering plants, animals, & natural features along local trails and streams. Each session we dive into different natural mystery focusing on the important role of our local natural history, how humans have interacted with the land as well as how we navigate these wildlands. Special guest speakers will share their knowledge of local animals including owls, cougars, wolves & salmon and the diversity of vegetation in garden, forest, river and ocean landscapes. Integrating arts & crafts, music, games & water play make our learning engaging & fun!
Sessions 1, 2 and 7 will be based at the Old Nelson Dairy Organic Farm, coordinating with Regan Johnson, the Garden Director. The children will help plant, maintain and harvest the garden.
From here and Nelson Dairy Farm we will also take time to explore unique themes such as historical villages along the Cle Elum river, forest survival and likely get a little wet and dirty learning about water and what it provides.
Our mission is to cultivate a child’s sense of wonder through immersion in the natural world. We believe that interacting with nature encourages a sense of place, awakens curiosity and creates healthy minds and bodies. Our work is based on the core values of strong communities, equal access to outdoor adventures, and stewardship of our natural world.
