Shelburne Museum and Shelburne Farm
were founded in 1947 on a Vanderbilt estate, and were considered the finest in the country when completed. The museum represents American historic preservation brought to life in a collection of historic buildings moved to the site from all around New England. The collections to be found are simply extraordinary and the museum is renowned for its vast and beautiful landscaped gardens. Plan at least a day at the Museum and be sure to visit the Breeding Barn where small animals are raised and the cheese- and bread-making operations are based.
