Stowe, Vt. — One goes to the spa to relax, to rejuvenate, to remind oneself to slow down and to focus on health. At Stowe Mountain Lodge, the spa, wellness and recreation team go beyond what most people think is “healthy” to ensure that all guests connect with nature and feel inspired by Stowe’s surroundings, which in return exudes the true meaning of health and wellness.
“The Spa and Wellness Center at Stowe Mountain Lodge has such an advantage in providing a truly authentic spa experience for our guests,” says Maggy Dunphy, Spa Director. “The natural surroundings, the mountains, the vast expanse of activities and outings that are outside our door allow for my team to create very unique and transformative experiences for our guests.”
One example: Dunphy and her team have created a signature yoga class, trademarked “Stowega.” Classes take place in the woods and involve Earthing techniques where participants learn how to be more connected to the Earth through grounding poses. In the winter, Stowega involves on-snow yoga classes prior to and at the end of a day on the ski hill.
In addition to signature wellness classes, Recreation Manager, Tyler Royer works closely with the spa team to ensure that recreational options coincide with the overall authentic experience that the Spa at Stowe Mountain Lodge provides.
Activities in 2013/2014 include a Rustic Furniture Class at a local furniture maker’s riverside studio; mountain meditation sessions at sunrise and sunset; “Bach to Nature” boot camp that involves core work, cardio and classical music outdoors; customized bird watching and guided hikes; a “Java Hike” that includes coffee, a morning hike and Stowega; as well as many other activities, tours and classes that involve the surrounding beauty and natural setting of Stowe, Vermont.
“We are very excited to have reinvented what most people think of as a spa day,” Dunphy says. “We call it our ‘Wei to Wellness,’ which in Mandarin, Wei means a transformative action, and that is exactly our goal for each experience, to leave our guests feeling transformed.”
