If there is one culinary tradition shared by mountain towns everywhere, it's great beer. North Lake Tahoe has seen several new craft breweries pop up in the last few years. Here are a few of our favorites.
Fifty Fifty Brewing Company in Truckee, California. One of the first breweries to lead the recent resurgence in locally made craft beer, 5050 makes the award-winning Eclipse barrel-aged stout. A full menu and large dining room make this a great option for families.
Tahoe Mountain Brewing Company in Tahoe City & Truckee. Relatively new to the craft brewing scene in Tahoe, it opened in 2012, Tahoe Mtn Brewery in Tahoe City is located right across from Commons Beach and has a great outdoor seating area for watching the passing scene. The Brewery & Tasting Room in Truckee hosts a happy hour with live music every Thursday.
Lake Tahoe Brewing Company, based in Carson City, has just opened a location in downtown Truckee. A full menu of handcrafted brews, with inspired, locally sourced food to pair with them makes this a great spot for lunch or casual dinner.
Alibi Ale Works is a little further afield, in Incline Village, Nevada. Owned by a Tahoe locals who have been brewing for years, their beers are brewed with water from Lake Tahoe in small batches. Food is not currently served, but picnics are welcome at the bar. We recommend stopping for happy hour if you are coming back from a day at Sand Harbor.
Mellow Fellow in Truckee. Great for families with a super simple menu. Mellow Fellow doesn't brew, but they have over 40 American craft beers on tap and they serve locally made sausages and tasty sandwiches.
