The Columbia River Gorge is filled with sparkling waterfalls – it seems like there’s one around every bend. If you made the exciting trek up Hamilton Mountain and favored the waterfalls there, you’re going to love Latourell Falls. This is one of the few hikes open on the Columbia Gorge’s Oregon side.
The trailhead is located off Interstate 84 in the Guy W. Talbot State Park. You’ll hear the mighty roar of the falls as soon as you park your car. The best part of this hike is that you decide how far you want to go. You can make it long or short, depending on the type of hiker you are or the amount of time you have.
You can hike up the trailhead less than a 100 feet to the first viewpoint for a bird’s-eye view. After climbing through the switchbacks and over the creek, you will reach upper Latourell Falls – roughly one mile in.
If you want to continue your hiking adventure (the view is worth it!), you can expect an elevation gain almost instantly. This hike is a total of 2.4 miles.
Affectionately known as Lat Falls, Latourell Falls is one of many hidden waterfalls up a small canyon. It is definitely worth the trek!
