STEVENSON, Wash. – September 21, 2016 – Skamania Lodge, A Destination Hotel, today announced the opening of two new tree houses. The tree houses are nestled in the tall Douglas Firs of the Columbia River Gorge, and their simple yet contemporary aesthetic is meant to connect guests with the beauty of nature.
Skamania Lodge’s tree houses are cozy, secluded, elevated rooms that sleep up to four guests, with modern amenities, overlooking Skamania Lodge’s lush forest and the Columbia River. The structures are elevated 15 and 20 feet in the air and designed with large windows and openings to make guests feel as though they are sleeping in the canopy of the trees.
The tree houses’ whimsical, refined-rustic design is paired with the luxuries of Skamania Lodge, such as a lavish bed and extravagant shower. Each tree house offers a large outdoor deck, an indoor/outdoor fireplace, one king size bed, bathroom, and easy access via an attached staircase. One of the two tree houses is ADA accessible.
Design elements within the tree houses are inspired from the idea of a creative childhood, when imaginations were thriving and days were filled with carefree playing outside and in tree houses.
“At Skamania Lodge we are focused on the complete Gorge experience,” said Skamania Lodge General Manager Ken Daugherty. “We thought a perfect complement to the Gorge experience is allowing guests to sleep in comfort among the trees in our forest with a view of the river.”
The forest floor features a gas fire pit and hammocks strewn thru the tall Douglas Firs. Additionally, the tree houses overlook the lodge’s golf course and the Woodlawn Lawn, a popular wedding venue, making the tree houses the perfect lodging option for bridal parties.
Tree house guests are a short walk from all the lodge’s offerings, like the Waterleaf Spa, hiking trails, Skamania Lodge Golf Course, and dining facilities, while still experiencing the peace and quiet of sleeping in the trees.
Seattle-based architectural design firm MG2 designed the tree houses; Portland-based Ankrom Moisen created the interior design; and Stevenson, Wash.-based Invision Construction was the general contractor overseeing construction of the tree houses, who exclusively hired local subcontractors for the job.
