During your stay at The Scottsdale Resort at McCormick Ranch spa and resort, take some time to venture out into Scottsdale to discover the city's vibrant arts scene. With museums and galleries that feature the work of upcoming and established artists, Scottsdale will satisfy any art enthusiast. The city's arts district is located just five miles south of our spa and resort, and it's the perfect place to spend an afternoon meandering between the many galleries, boutique shops and cafes. Though you may want to visit them all, here are a few of what we consider the city's must-see arts venues.
The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) occupies 21 beautiful landscaped acres right in the heart of downtown Scottsdale and just a short drive from our spa and resort. The museum prides itself on its cultural diversity, as it hosts works from local artists as well as artists from the far reaches of the world. It hosts between nine and 12 exhibitions annually, rotating them to give visitors a unique experience each time they visit.
As one of the most popular art galleries in Scottsdale, The Marshall Gallery hosts the works of 70 of the country's top artists. For roughly 15 years, it's exhibited classical and contemporary paintings, abstracts and sculptures from notable artists including Merrill Mahaffey, Ray Donley and Bryon Draper. The gallery is also well-known for its art glass collection, which contains blown, carved, cast and worked pieces from American and European masters.
Prepare to be blown away by the exhibits in the Calvin Charles Gallery. The space is home to an eclectic assortment of contemporary paintings, sculptures and abstract works from artists in the United States, Europe, Asia and other areas of the globe. Since 1999 when it first opened as a dealer of Asian antiques, it has grown to become one of the top destinations in the Phoenix area for domestic and international art collectors.
