History of Chase Field

For most people visiting Arizona for the first time, they first want to know where to stay in Phoenix and then want to know a bit about the Diamondbacks and the history of Chase Field. Located in downtown Phoenix, Chase Field is the “epicenter of the downtown Phoenix sports experience.”

Designed by Ellerbe Becket, the Bank One Ballpark was built in 1998. In the team’s first official game, the Diamondbacks hosted the Colorado Rockies. Located at 401 East Jefferson Street, the stadium took 28 months to build at a cost of $354 million. It was renamed Chase Field in 2005.

Chase Field Accommodates over 48,000 Sports Fans

Chase Field can seat over 48,000 baseball fans and also hosts many regional events. It is also available for corporate outings and private events. The playing field is natural grass and the outfield dimensions range from 330 feet in left field to 407 feet in center field. The field includes a 136-foot high definition video board so everyone can enjoy the game from anyplace in the stadium.

While visiting Chase Field, you may want to enjoy the Legends Entertainment District. It is the “first-of-its-kind” marketing effort between professional sports organizations designed specifically to revitalize downtown Phoenix. As a joint venture between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Phoenix Suns, the district provides an “energetic backdrop" for your entire visit to the area.
