A COVID-19 Update from Destination Residences Hawaii
On October 19, Hawaii’s Governor Ige declared, "It is now safe for fully vaccinated residents and visitors to resume non-essential travel to and within the State of Hawaii". Access to local restaurants, tour activities, boat excursions, beach activities, and other joys of Hawaii continue to remain unchanged. Puunoa Beach Estates has and continues to welcome guests with Aloha. Guests vacationing with us have the added advantage of being able to stay in private vacation residences with fully equipped kitchens and plenty of room to relax and reconnect. Our rentals have been prepared for your arrival with enhanced, industry-setting safety and cleanliness protocols.
BEFORE YOU ARRIVE:
Be in-the-know regarding all the important travel requirements and safety protocols in place for travel to the State of Hawaii.
For the Vaccinated:
Travelers who have been fully vaccinated in the United States or its Territories you may enter Hawaii on domestic flights without pre-travel testing and forgo the mandatory 5-day quarantine.
You must be 15 days past the completion of your final vaccination
You’ll need to upload a copy of your vaccination records to Hawaii’s Safe Travels program, and also have a hard copy of your vaccination record in hand.
For the Unvaccinated:
To bypass the mandatory 5-day traveler quarantine, travelers must have a negative result from a test taken from a trusted testing and travel partner no more than 72 hours before beginning the final leg of their trip.
The negative test result must be uploaded onto Safe Travels and printed out with a hard copy in hand when arriving to Hawaii.
Anyone without a negative test result or U.S. vaccination prior to departure must quarantine for 5 days upon arrival.
For International Incoming Travelers:
The State of Hawaii will welcome all vaccinated international travelers. Non-U.S. citizens traveling directly to Hawaii must present BOTH a vaccination record AND a negative COVID-19 test result (NAAT or antigen) within 24 hours of boarding a flight to the U.S.
U.S. citizens flying directly to Hawaii from an international destination have two options: (1) fully vaccinated U.S. citizens must provide proof of vaccination AND a negative COVID-19 test result within 24 hours of boarding a flight to Hawaii OR (2) if not vaccinated, a negative COVID-19 test result within 24 hours of boarding a flight to Hawaii.

ONCE YOU ARRIVE:
Once you have arrived to the state of Hawaii, it is important you understand the guidelines that residents and tourists follow regarding COVID safety protocols in their local communities. On December 1, 2021, Maui Mayor Mike Victorino introduced new Public Health Emergency Rules which are now in effect. If you have a proof-of-vaccine card, we advise you add it to your packing list.
First off, Maui County has defined "fully vaccinated" as someone:
• Between two weeks to six months of receiving the second dose in a two-dose series of Pfizer or Moderna or a single-dose of Johnson & Johnson. Note: if more than six months have passed since your initial vaccination and you did not receive a booster shot, you are no longer considered fully vaccinated.
• You are considered fully vaccinated the day you receive your booster shot. When eligible, having a booster shot after six months of receiving the Pfizer or Moderna second shot or two months after the Johnson & Johnson single shot.
Restaurants, bars, social establishments: Indoor operations can operate at normal capacity. Only vaccinated patrons 12 years or older may dine indoors. Unvaccinated patrons who present a negative COVID-19 test 48 hours prior to dining may also be allowed to dine indoors. Lastly, individuals who previously tested positive for COVID-19 and have recovered within the last 90 days, and show the correct medical paperwork, may also dine indoors.
Gyms and fitness centers: May operate at normal indoor capacity, with all customers over the age of 12 showing proof of being fully vaccinated, showing a negative COVID test, or proving they have recovered from a previous infection within the last 90 days.
Commercial boating and tour operators: May operate at normal capacity. Service and consumption of food or drinks inside the vessel cabin shall be consistent with the Restaurant rules related to indoor dining above, except that confirmation of vaccination or negative COVID testing is encouraged but not required.
Commercial event operators, including weddings and luau: Those organizing professional events larger than 75 people need to notify and consult with the Mayor’s Office.

We continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation through the Hawaii Department of Health and the CDC as it rapidly evolves. With heightened concerns surrounding travel and health, we have increased our cleanliness standards and have put many precautionary procedures in place to ensure the safety of our guests and team members.
Here is how we are enhancing our health practices to keep our ‘ohana safe:
Daily staff briefings to provide up-to-date preventative information, such as the CDC recommended hand washing guide. Click here to learn more from the CDC.
Intensifying cleaning of high-touch areas like elevator buttons, doorknobs, front desks, and deep-clean guestroom procedures.
Waterless hand sanitizer stations provided at high traffic public areas such as the front desk.
Educational signage in our public areas and washrooms to encourage CDC-approved hygienic standards.
Employees who have the slightest symptoms of respiratory illness or fever, or have been in close contact with someone with those symptoms, have been instructed to stay home and seek medical care as needed.
Housekeeping services will be provided mid-stay, and we will contact guests to determine the best time to clean when you are planning to be away from your vacation residence.
