Planning a destination wedding is no small task – in addition to picking out the dress and selecting traditional vendors, you may also need to consider complex transportation plans and destination-specific marriage laws. Our skilled team of wedding experts is here to make the process a little easier. Below are month-by-month tips for planning every detail of your dream day.

Eight Months to One Year Ahead
Confirm your wedding budget
Determine how many guests you intend to invite to your big day – this will help you determine if an intimate resort or a large downtown property would be a better fit
Select your destination location!
Hire a wedding planner if you desire additional assistance or your venue requires it
Begin compiling design ideas in a binder or on Pinterest (link to Destination's weddings Pinterest page)

Six to Eight Months Ahead
Order your dress and accessories (be sure to consider the weather of your destination)
Book wedding musicians or DJ
Book your photographer
Book your videographer
Research accommodation options for your guests
Create a wedding website to inform guests of registry, accommodation, and fun local options

Seven Months Ahead
Book your officiant and discuss marriage license requirements
Book your florist
Compile guest list with addresses
Register for gifts (2–3 retailers is best to provide your guests with options)
Choose attendants‘ attire
Reserve your rehearsal dinner location

Five to Six Months Ahead
Select and send your save-the-date cards (and include your wedding website information)
Begin making honeymoon plans
Place order for your invitations
Register for gifts
Purchase wedding rings
Reserve groom's attire
Select your favors (ask your wedding planner or catering manager for unique local ideas)
Confirm your own travel arrangements to your wedding venue

Three Months Ahead
Mail invitations
Schedule a tasting with your venue (if a trip is possible)
Schedule cake tasting and confirm flavors and design
Place orders for extra decor items (candy bars, photo booths, lounge furniture, etc)
If budget allows, purchase a few amenities for your guests (pashminas for the ocean breeze or sunglasses for the city glare)

One to Two Months Ahead
Purchase guestbook or photo matte for guests to sign
Print programs
Obtain marriage license (check out the specific requirements and fees for your destination state)
Schedule final dress fitting
Print place cards
Book a trial hair and makeup appointment
Begin creating your seating chart
Ship wedding-day items to your venue

Wedding Week
Submit final seating chart and place cards to your catering manager

Pick up wedding gown after a final press
