Things to Do in Vail This Fall
Autumn is one of the best times of year to visit the Vail Valley. The temperature starts to drop, which results in stunning fall foliage as the leaves change. There are many “off-season” specials and deals to take advantage of during this time. And, Vail Village and Lionshead Village are less crowded, as families head back to school.
But the lack of crowds certainly doesn’t mean that Vail becomes a ghost town in the fall. There are a number of great, family-friendly events that take place in Vail during this time. From car shows to wine festivals, you might find yourself returning to Vail autumn after autumn.
Vail Automotive Classic — The four-day Vail Automotive Classic is packed with fun events for the whole family. The weekend includes a car show, acrobatic air show, and more. If you’re participating in the show, there is a Mountain Road Tour through the beautiful Rocky Mountains. The Automotive Classic benefits local Vail charities.
Vail Oktoberfest — The annual Vail Oktoberfest celebration is not to be missed. The festival occurs on two weekends: September 7-9 (in Lionshead Village) and September 14-16 (in Vail Village). Each festival includes a biergarten, competitions like stein-holding and bratwurst-eating, live music, and more. The Lionshead Village Oktoberfest takes place just steps from our vacation rentals for ultimate convenience. (But don’t worry, the festival ends by 10 p.m. at the latest so you’ll be sleeping undisturbed.) Admission to Oktoberfest is free.
Colorado Grand Charity Tour & Car Show — Every year, around 85 vintage cars tour Colorado to raise money for Colorado charities. The 1000-mile tour ends in Lionshead Village on Friday, Sept. 14 between 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. The cars will then be on display between 9 a.m. and noon in Lionshead Village the following morning. This year marks the Colorado Grand’s 30th anniversary. Both the “finish line” and the car show are free and open to the public.
Taste of Vail Wine & Food Classic — Taste of Vail, a local non-profit organization, hosts wine dinners and seminars throughout the year, but the Wine & Food Classic is the signature event. The festival, which takes place Sept. 22-23, showcases food from Vail’s best restaurants as well as wine from the Southern Hemisphere. In addition to the Grand Tasting, there are hikes and other outdoor activities throughout the weekend.
Vail / Beaver Creek Restaurant Week — We mentioned off-season discounts, and Restaurant Week is one of the best times to get unbeatable deals (on both dining and lodging!). During Restaurant Week, which takes place Sept. 28 - Oct. 7, great restaurants throughout Vail and Beaver Creek offer prix fixe menus and specials — each for $20.18. We are also involved in Restaurant Week and are offering rates starting at $157/night!
