Avoiding Photo Burnout

Learn how to minimize the effects of photo fatigue on your wedding day.

It happens to the best of couples: photo fatigue. That moment when you realize that smiling through one more photo sounds like not so much fun. Having to endure an extended period of time in which you have to be “on” can be exhausting!

Here are a few tips I’ve learned over the years that can help minimize the effects of photo fatigue and allow you to enjoy your wedding the way you and your partner intended it.

1.  Just because you’ve hired a photographer to capture every moment of your wedding, it doesn’t mean you need every moment captured. So if you want some privacy, just ask for it!

2.  Getting ready can be a great time to decompress before the wedding. It’s totally fine to request that your photographer not show up until the very end of the ready room hours.

3.  Another great option is to take a few minutes away from everyone right after your ceremony to have a quiet moment and be at peace with your partner. Your photographer will then take that time to focus on photographing your guests and details.

4.  Often it’s the family portraits that end up taking the most time to execute, simply because there are more people to gather up and instruct. Keep your list of family portraits as short as you can. This doesn’t mean you exclude your favorite uncle from your family photos, it just means try to be most efficient. Grouping people together by categories can save you a lot of time. Informing requested people ahead of time as to when and where to show up will get them to the finish line faster.

At the end of the day, getting your pictures taken shouldn’t feel like a chore. It should be fun and enjoyable, and it will be fun if you plan ahead, communicate with your photographer, and give yourselves a few little quiet moments to savor-just you two.
