LANSDOWNE RESORT AND SPA ANNOUNCES MAJOR EXPANSION TO THEIR AMENITIES
Leesburg, Virginia (May 7, 2018) – Lansdowne Resort and Spa, A Destination Hotel, has unveiled new plans to expand their amenities to the Potomac River, making the award-winning resort a water sports destination. Lansdowne Resort and Spa, and Fish and Explore have collaborated to create Adventures at Lansdowne. Beginning May 7, the resort’s first-ever water activities on the Potomac River will include: Kayaking; Fly and Spin Fishing; and River Fishing.
“The Potomac River was once a major gateway to travel in the region. Given the resort’s location on the banks of the Potomac River, we have seen an increase in the number of guests who want to enjoy activities on the water including kayaking, fly-fishing and stand-up paddle,” said Mark Jennings, Senior Vice President of East Coast Operations of Two Roads Hospitality. “We are very excited about this expansion of resort amenities, as it enables us to appeal to a wider spectrum of guests, provide additional activities to our guests, members and locals, and continue our mission to enrich lives.”
Lansdowne Resort and Spa’s new water sports menu features a wide variety of activities that guests may select from including Historic Paddle and Explore, a four-hour flat water paddle to discover a little history about how the river was used for transportation and the construction of the C&O Canal and Goose Creek Canal; the Awakening Sunrise Paddle or Sunset Paddle, a relaxing two-hour paddle designed to let you reflect, focus on nature and yourself. Glide along with aquatic critters as you tour an island or two while leisurely paddling the scenic Potomac. Alternatively, you can test your skills with Guided Kayak Fishing as you fish flat calm waters that offer a relaxed approach to river fishing. During Fly Casting Lessons, you will learn about gear (rods, reels and line). During Spin Casting Lesson, you will learn the principals of casting and practice dry casting to targets.
Guests can get close to nature through these new excursions. A wide variety of wildlife call the Potomac River their home and they can often be seen on our trips, including: bald eagles, ospreys, red-tailed hawks, great blue herons, green herons, kingfishers, ducks, pileated woodpeckers, wild turkeys, owls, deer, woodchucks, stoats and minks, turtles, beaver, and many fish. The resort’s new expanded menu for the summer season will include stand-up paddle; moonlight paddle; and happy hour events such as fly-casting, fly tying, and spin casting.
Each Paddle trip is led by Fish and Explore’s friendly, certified guides to ensure the excursion is informative, enjoyable and safe. Class sizes range from small groups of four to larger groups up to 30 people. All trips are calm-water trips, recommended for 14+ years of age, and are great for novice to skilled paddlers. All water adventures are available to guests and local residents. All activities include transportation to and from one of the local launch points. Activities range in duration from 1.5 hours – 8 hours and start at $150 per person.
This summer, Lansdowne Resort and Spa is offering a special package, Summers on the Potomac to celebrate the launch. When guest book the package, they will receive overnight accommodations, a guided kayaking activity for two, packed snacks to enjoy on the water, and a guided hike along the Potomac River. Package prices start at $428 for the stays this summer.
