In order to preserve the world in which we operate and serve our guests, La Cantera Resort & Spa, along with Destination Hotels, is dedicated to the practices and programs of eco-friendly hotels that lessen our footprint on the changing environment.

Resort-wide Initiatives:

  • Single stream recycling
  • All used print cartridges are recycled
  • Re­use of scrap paper and double sided printing when possible
  • Lighting, computers, gas and equipment in all areas are turned off when not in use
  • Computer monitors turn off automatically after a period of inactivity
  • Energy efficient CFL lighting in all guest rooms and in the hotel’s public spaces
  • Use of email instead of paper for communication and documentation
  • Hybrid vehicle/transportation service is available upon request with Concierge

Additional Eco Initiatives – Audiovisual, Catering, Engineering, Spa, Golf and more

  • A recycling program is in place for light bulb ballasts, light bulbs, and batteries
  • Recycle bins are in all offices and department areas
  • Use of a paperless sales and inventory software system
  • Lighting is turned off in all rooms when not in use
  • Air conditioning in use only during occupied meeting times
  • Kitchen energy reduction program reduces pre­heat timing and equipment usage
  • Both organic foods and vegetarian options are available in the restaurants, banquet functions and in room service
  • We offer local food products, thus reducing our carbon footprint for shipping
  • Electronic thermostats in guestrooms with pre­set settings to minimize energy consumption
  • An energy management system is used to control all mechanical, HVAC, chiller and boiler systems, and pumping stations
  • All guest rooms and public areas feature 1.4 gallon per flush toilets
  • Watering is conducted off of ET bases
  • Annual irrigation audits
  • Equipment is blown off prior to washing for water conservation
  • Equipment is calibrated frequently to ensure proper application
  • Routine maintenance on all equipment to improve mileage and cause less wear
  • Bed linens and towels are changed only upon guest request to aid in water and energy conservation efforts
  • Use of non­toxic green chemicals
  • Pallets are picked up for reuse or repair rather than discarding
  • Email is the preferred communication rather than large paper mailing campaigns
  • Contracts are distributed to multiple departments via email instead of paper copies
  • All room service tickets are recycled
  • Reusable water bottles and water dispensers are used by associates to eliminate the use of bottled water
  • Bell carts are polished with recycled rags
  • Use and promote organic products
  • Facial, massage, and body treatment supplies feature all natural ingredients
  • Dish washing machines are shut down when business levels are low
  • All detergent products meet or exceed EPA GS­37 industrial cleaner guidelines
