Cooler weather is approaching, which means it is time to get out and explore the never-ending discovery of the Texas Hill Country. A little more than an hour from La Cantera Hill Country Resort is one of the best hiking spots in all of Texas, Enchanted Rock.
Known for its unique dome shape, known as a batholith, and family friendly hiking, Enchanted Rock park is a must-see destination while exploring the Hill Country. Located just outside of Fredericksburg, the Natural State Park has a 4-mile loop trail that takes hikers to the top 425 foot Enchanted Rock, to get a spectacular view of the Hill Country. Though Enchanted Rock does not have a summit, per se, the top of the dome offers plenty of space to get a 360-degree view of the hill country and a perfect spot to stop, and take in the natural beauty of the area. The park offers guided hikes of the summit with park rangers and naturalist so you can learn about the natural and cultural history of the park and the vegetation. The park stays open until 10pm so guests can also enjoy stargazing in the evenings. Check the park’s website for “Rock Star” Parties that happen throughout the year for an evening of stargazing with local astronomers and park rangers. Day passes to the park are only $7, so it is a great value for an amazing day of exploration.
In preparation for exploring the amazing natural beauty of Enchanted Rock, be sure to swing by Henrietta’s for snacks and plenty of water, or request a picnic made at Bocado to enjoy once you arrive at the park.
