Chef Quiñones pairs his signature dish with Tito’s Handmade Vodka, creating a winning combination for the first annual food and cocktails event, New Mexico Cocktails and Culture. Chef donated his $500 prize money to Santa Fe non-profit Cooking With Kids

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—June 30, 2016; Santa Fe, New Mexico: Luminaria Restaurant at Santa Fe’s award-winning Inn and Spa at Loretto, A Destination Hotel, is proud to announce Chef Marc Quiñones as the winner of the New Mexico Cocktails and Culture’s Celebrity Chef and Shaker Challenge event, which took place earlier this month.

Natalie Bovis of The Liquid Muse paired famous Santa Fe chefs with award winning spirits, allowing attendees of the June 4, 2016 event to sip and nibble through the ballroom at Scottish Rite Temple and vote for their favorite pairing. As the winning chef, Quiñones received a $500 donation from New Mexico Cocktails & Culture, which he gave to Cooking with Kids. A portion of all ticket sales was also donated to the non-profit.

Quiñones’ Berkshire pork belly with Anasazi bean ragout, yellow corn kernels and Harissa sherry reduction was paired with a cocktail called “The Bennett,” consisting of Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Giffard pamplemousse rose liqueur, fresh lemon and basil.

“Creating a dish with local roots and history combined with a fresh and modern cocktail was an exciting challenge for me,” said Quiñones. “I love competing with other local chefs, especially when our efforts benefit a great organization that supports children learning about food and healthy eating in our schools.”

Born and raised in the South Bronx, Quiñones has been the Executive Chef at Luminaria at the Inn and Spa at Loretto for two years.  Prior to that he was at Bien Shur in Albuquerque and won Albuquerque THE Magazine’s title of “Best Chef in the City” in 2012 and 2013 as well as winning Grand Champion at the Souper Bowl in 2013. In addition, Quiñones won the 2014 Chef’s Knockout titles of Critic’s Choice, People’s Choice and Best in Show. Quiñones staged for Chef John Besh at his signature restaurant, August, in New Orleans and was selected for inclusion in the inaugural edition of Best Chefs America. Most recently, he was a finalist on The Food Networks, “Cutthroat Kitchen.” One of his career highlights was cooking for the President George W. Bush aboard Air Force One. Quiñones attended culinary school at Le Cordon Bleu in Scottsdale where he graduated with a 4.0 and became a member of Les Amis d’Escoffier Society of New York. He has cooked in Hawaii, Arizona and Napa, Calif. before coming to NM.

Luminaria is open for dinner starting at 5:00pm until 9:00pm.
