We just flipped our calendars and saw October. OCTOBER! This year is flying right by and that means the holidays are right around the corner! This is an exciting time for our event folks here at Hotel Derek because we don’t hold back when it comes to getting our clients what they want for their holiday parties. Not matter how extravagant or wild they may be! Here’s a quick Q&A on holiday party planning with our event planner, Misty King-Obenauer.
How soon should holiday party planning begin?
Its never too early to begin planning! Here at HD we start booking holiday parties 6-12 months in advance, so I suggest that you secure a venue as soon as your budget is established to ensure you have first pick of your preferred date. Once you have your venue locked in, then the fun really begins!
How can you pick the perfect theme?
Every client is unique, therefore, the perfect theme for any party should be appropriate for the guests who are attending. If you have a group that is adventurous and thrill-seeking then a theme that compliments that such as a James Bond Casino with passed Martinis (shaken-not stirred of course!) or go rogue with a Hawaiian themed Winter Luau complete with Pig Roast. If your group is more traditional, a Black Tie Gatsby theme with a custom bubbly bar would be the perfect touch. At HD, not only are our ballrooms versatile enough that any range of decor would work, but our amazing Chef can customize a variety of food options to really bring a theme to life.
Which holiday brings the most fun parties to assist with?
At Hotel Derek, we live for creating couture experiences for our clients, so it’s only natural that New Year’s Eve is my absolute favorite holiday to plan. Typically, our clients are focused on high energy themes that are extremely outside of the norm and are always looking for unique ideas for the climactic midnight countdown. Gone are the days of the predictable midnight balloon drop and champagne toast. Clients are now opting for confetti cannons, pyrotechnics, aerial artist pouring champagne from the ceiling, live streams of other events-anything to create a unique experience to ring in the new year.
Can you describe the most elaborate holiday party at Hotel Derek you’ve worked on?
The most elaborate holiday party that Ive had the privilege of working on was a black tie event that included an ice bar with oysters shucked to order, “living” champagne and dessert tables, custom dance floor, multiple carving stations, incredible lighting, made to order dessert stations, celebrity impersonators a live band and casino gaming. Everyone had an amazing time!
