Washington, D.C., March 19, 2015 – The Embassy Row Hotel, A Destination Hotel, has announced the official completion of its $15 million, multi-phase renovation. The Dupont Circle property sets a new standard for lifestyle hotels in Washington, D.C., with 231 newly redesigned guest rooms; a lifestyle-driven lobby experience anchored by a first-in-D.C. culinary concept in new restaurant Station Kitchen & Cocktails; a seasonal rooftop bar complex boasting one of the city’s only heated saltwater chlorine swimming pools with sweeping views; a revamped fitness and recreation studio; and inventive partnerships with local, like-minded organizations such as Compass Coffee, So Others Might Eat and Union Kitchen. The hotel is celebrating the occasion with a 24-hour flash sale on March 19 offering up to 40 percent off rates for stays through June 30, 2015, based on availability using code FirstToSee. In addition, the hotel has launched a “Feel Like A Million Bucks” promotional package paired with a social media sweepstakes highlighting the neighborhood’s past once called Millionaire’s Row.
“We’re debuting the most comprehensive lifestyle hotel in the District,” said Shawn Jervis, General Manager. “Through our groundbreaking partnerships with local businesses, The Embassy Row Hotel provides a one-of-a-kind, authentic experience for guests and an exciting new addition to D.C.’s culinary and nightlife scene for locals.”
Rooted in history, The Embassy Row Hotel is passionate about staying true to its place and offering guests a genuine D.C. experience by connecting them with the community in simple, yet meaningful ways during their stay. Designed by HVS Design, the experience begins upon arrival where guests will be greeted with brandied cherries, a nod to the District’s beloved treasure. In the lobby, an installation of handmade acrylic cherry blossoms complements the front desk backdrop featuring silhouettes of historic D.C. figures and personalities. Playful artwork features iconic buildings, row houses and an abandoned trolley station through the years and even the music, customized and managed by Image Sound, highlights artists with local ties.
“Feel Like A Million Bucks” Package and Sweepstakes
Valid through June 30, the package starts at $329 per night and includes: overnight accommodations, dinner for two at Station Kitchen & Cocktails, credit to travel the District in style via Uber, complimentary Compass Coffee each morning, curated itinerary of must-try spots by locals, gift card to Union Market, and a “selfie” stick to capture memories. As a bonus, guests and locals are encouraged to share a photo on Instagram or Facebook of what makes them feel like a million bucks with the hashtag #embassyrowlove by April 2 for a chance to win the “Feel Like A Million Bucks” package PLUS dinner for two at the Chef’s table in Station Kitchen & Cocktails with Instagram foodie icons @DCfoodporn, @GirlMeetsFood, and @CapitalCooking. The brainchild of two former marines, Compass Coffee - set in the bustling neighborhood of Shaw - offers both blends and single-origin brews sourced from Guatemala, Indonesia, Kona and other spots around the globe. The modern industrial digs, transformed from a laundromat, feature a handcrafted steel and cement counter and a view of its state-of-the-art Loring roaster. As one of D.C.’s only roasters, The Embassy Row Hotel sought to support the business by serving only Compass brews in Station Kitchen & Cocktails, and brokering agreements for specialty coffee programming for groups business.
Housed in a 7,300 sq. ft. warehouse, Union Kitchen serves as a platform and megaphone for food start-ups by providing a low-cost, low-risk, full-service kitchen for businesses to establish their operations. Embracing the local mission, Station Kitchen & Cocktails serves baked goods from Union Kitchen members in the Chef’s Pantry and in the warmer months, The Rooftop will play host to pop-ups by various members.
Furthering its commitment to the community, The Embassy Row Hotel teamed up with SOME, So Others Might Eat, a community-based organization that exists to help the poor and homeless of our nation’s capital. As part of this partnership, the hotel has implemented on-property programming including:
Station Kitchen & Cocktails
At the cornerstone of the redesigned property is a lifestyle-driven lobby, anchored by new restaurant Station Kitchen & Cocktails. Under the direction of Chef de Cuisine Peter Kloiber, this distinctive concept merges the traditional hotel lobby with a first-in-D.C. culinary and beverage experience. By day, locals and visitors alike will enjoy a vibrant coffee shop featuring Compass Coffee from D.C.’s only roasters, baked goods from local food incubator Union Kitchen, and a 24-hour Chef’s Pantry, featuring readymade sandwiches and local snacks. In the evening, it transitions to bottled cocktails and shared plates with signature items such as wellington meatballs, tuna casserole, Korean caveman pops served at communal tables and nook-style seating to offer an engaging social experience.
The ONLY rooftop pool and bar in Dupont Circle, The Rooftop at The Embassy Row Hotel is one of D.C.’s best-kept secrets. Boasting commanding skyline views of the District and Virginia, The Rooftop features teak deck chairs with plush seating, a covered lounge, and a stunning heated saltwater chlorine swimming pool open to hotel guests and rooftop members only. The Rooftop is also accessible to the public via day-passes (complimentary after 5:00 p.m.) and available to rent for private events. An exclusive membership available to only 20 of D.C.’s elite, members enjoy unlimited access, plus one free guest per visit and discounted accommodations. Memberships are available for $1,000 per person.
In season, The Rooftop plays host to “Support A Cause Wednesdays” designed as a grassroots effort to help locals fundraise for their favorite cause. The Rooftop donates $1 from every draft beer and glass of wine ordered to the featured non-profit. Individuals must reserve the fundraiser in advance.
Weddings, Meetings and Special Events
Set in an ideal location with easy access to Dupont Circle, the event capabilities at The Embassy Row Hotel are endless. With more than 8,000+ square feet of new flexible indoor and outdoor event space, the hotel offers a 4,000+ sq. ft. rooftop bar with sweeping views and nearly 5,000+ sq. ft. of indoor meeting space with seven breakout rooms, including a sprawling 2,265 sq. ft. ballroom, and new restaurant with private dining capabilities.
Beyond physical changes, guests will find a true departure from customary banquet offerings. Instead of the traditional three-course meal, the hotel has implemented interactive tables equipped with “Lazy Susan” style rotating turntables to serve small plates, encouraging conversation amongst groups. Inspired by the elements of food, dishes fall under one of five categories of Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood. To further elevate the group experience, the hotel will bring its relationship with SOME into the boardroom, pledging to donate five percent of revenue for every continuous break station purchased.
