What are three items you would bring to a desert island?
1) Cell phone, I’ve learned that I am a true extrovert and thrive off the energy of others. Being “deserted” anywhere would not suit me well, especially in a hot desert.
2) Pandora – I could finally take my passion for singing out of the shower and sing at the top of my lungs, and spare everyone.
3) A never –ending box of flares! Even with a cell phone and ability to sing – I would quickly get bored and wouldn’t last a week before I needed to get back to civilization!
If you could go anywhere in the world where would that be?
My dream trip is a Mediterranean Cruise. It’s something about the culture, and scenery that draws me…but I’d depart from Barcelona - my other favorite city!
What 3 people would you invite to a dinner party?
Sir Richard Branson, President Obama and Oprah Winfrey – I would want to know from these three people that can do anything in the world (or in Sr. Branson’s case OUT of this world) what inspires and motivates them to do what they do.
What’s your favorite kind of group to work with?
A group that wants to step outside of the box and desire to create a unique experience that speaks to their purpose honed with the unique abilities and identity of our property.
What’s the secret to your success as a Sales Manager?
Caring about the people that I have met. Over the years in my career, I have met some amazing people and formed lasting relationships.
What’s the biggest career risk you’ve ever taken?
Taking the risk and starting my own meeting planning company in 2007 at the onset of the recession. It was the most fulfilling time, but it lacked in finances. Despite the downfalls, I learned so much more about me and grew as a person and a hospitality professional.
Do you have any insider hospitality tips for groups traveling to D.C.?
Come during the summer! I am AMAZED at the deals that you can get in DC, the Nationals Capital. There are so many attractions and activities to do here and rates are very reasonable in comparison to other tier 1 cities.
How do you celebrate a big victory at work?
There is only one way to celebrate a big victory at work – with Champagne! In this business we hear “NO” most of the time, but when someone finally buys into you and what you represent, that should be celebrated in a BIG way!
What advice do you have for your clients on the best deals?
Be forward with your expectations – present your wish list, but also present your reality. We are in the business of saying “YES” and can do a better job at speaking directly to your needs when we know what the bottom line is in order to win your over!
Describe someone outside of your field who inspires you?
My ultimate inspiration is the sum of my Grandmother & Grandfather. They have always been a very present and positive influence in my life. Instilling values that has led me to live my life in a truly authentic and ethical way. Truly an inspiration of persistence, commitment, dedication and most importantly, love!
