Things To Do in Vail

A storied past. A modern day marvel.

Before it was a world-class ski resort, Vail was rugged and untamed accessed primarily by the Ute Indians for hunting. Mined for gold and silver in the late 1800s, the town made many miners wealthy and with that came the railroad, settlements, and the development of Highway 6 in 1939. But it wasn’t until after World War II that three buddies from the 10th Mountain Division who had trained in Vail, Pete Seibart, Bob Parker and Bill “Sarge” Brown, returned and saw the mountain’s potential. In 1954, Earl Eaton joined the ski resort project and construction began in 1962 to transform Vail into the modern, international legend it is today.

Today, Vail teems with year-round adventure, arts, culture, and entertainment for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy. Located amid the Colorado Rockies surrounded by the wild beauty of the White River National Forest, Vail is a timeless gem that inspires awe and moves us to actively partake in the beauty and natural grandeur that is Mother Nature.
