Maui inspires a thriving community of talented and creative artists, artisans and performers.  Here’s a sample of some of the places the artist-in-you will want to check out to discover one of a kind Maui art, history, and culture:

Art Galleries

  • Art Collection Tour at the Grand Wailea is considered to be the largest resort collection in Hawaii.  Meet local Artists in Residence every Tuesday and Friday.
  • Maui Craft Guild, a Fine Crafts cooperative of Maui artists, exhibiting juried work in ceramics, textile, glass, woodwork, photography and printmaking.
  • Maui Hands represents over 300 Hawaii artists which showcase distinctive Hawaiian gifts, jewelry, home furnishings and accessories.
  • The monthly ARTwalk at The Shops at Wailea allows you to browse six fine art galleries and meet the artists


Museums

  • Lahaina Walking Tour offers a look in and around historic buildings preserved when Front Street was one of the busiest whaling ports in the world.   
  • Makawao History Museum is unique for its cowboy town history of Upcountry Maui.  
  • Bailey House Museum, the former home of elite missionaries, was recently discovered to be on the land of Kahekili, a fierce warrior chief.


Hawaiian Culture & History

  • Kō‘ie‘ie Fishpond offers daily morning canoe rides which gives perspective to Hawaiian living and sustainability through Hawaiian aquaculture and fish cultivation.
  • Piʻilanihale Heiau is the largest ancient temple in Hawaii,  measuring 40 feet high and nearly 4 acres. Dating back to the 12th century, it is located in the Kahanu Gardens in Hana.
  • Maui Nei Expeditions offers unique experiences with native Hawaiian cultural specialists that visit significant, revered sites in Lahaina that you may have missed otherwise.


Performance and Interaction

  • Maui Arts and Cultural Center - The MACC as it’s called by the locals, is the major performance venue for concerts, shows and special events of all genres.   Check out the events while you’re on vacation.
  • Hui Noʻeau Visual Arts Center is a unique interactive arts center for both residents and visitors.  It offers workshops, lectures, art events and exhibitions that are meant to inspire creativity from local and global artists.
  • ʻUlalena Show in Lahaina is a theatrical production that conveys an artistic portrayal of some of Hawaii’s famed legends.
