There is no shortage of captivating scenery at Cliff House. Perched on a coastal bluff in southern Maine, the completely redesigned resort offers unobstructed views of the ocean and cliffs throughout 25,000 square feet of indoor meeting space, creating an inspiring and innovational setting for company gatherings.
“We have floor-to-ceiling windows in most rooms, natural daylight, and dramatic views of the ocean, making events very experiential,” said Lisbeth Yori, Director of Sales at Cliff House. “The location sparks a lot of creativity and imagination.”
A spectacular design of event venues includes spaces for up to 300, intimate meeting rooms, oceanfront terraces, and the resort’s expansive lawns–each with extensive audiovisual services to ensure that events unfold flawlessly. In any venue, an exquisite menu can be crafted to enhance the occasion, from a casual lobster bake to an elegant plated dinner inspired by indigenous Maine flavors. And for those on a company retreat, additional activities can be arranged in the form of onsite and local recreation such as local craft brewery tours, lobstering or a trip to Mount Agamenticus.
Here is an outline of the Cliff House venues, complete with ideas for authentic New England experiences like the resort’s Maine lobster shack, Nubb’s.
With sweeping views of the ocean and a vaulted ceiling crafted to resemble the inside of a ship’s hull, the 4,500-square-foot Atlantic Ballroom provides a dramatic setting for group meetings and large social gatherings. Floor-to-ceiling windows ensure that the Atlantic is the centerpiece of every event. “We’re just an hour north of Boston,” said Yori, “but you feel as if you are a million miles away.”
The neighboring Cape Neddick Salon is an equally elegant venue offering 4,400 square feet of space and southward-facing views of the ocean and the iconic Nubble Lighthouse. The two venues can be used singularly or in conjunction for large-scale functions.
From polished boardrooms to coastally inspired salons, the 11 small meeting spaces at Cliff House provide versatile spaces for day meetings and small company gatherings. Many of the venues offer private terraces, natural daylight, and stunning cliff-to-sea views, and some rooms can be converted into smaller spaces for multi-faceted events.
Particularly well suited for social gatherings, the sweeping lawns and terraces at Cliff House are ideal for those who wish to immerse themselves in the Maine outdoors.
There are currently four lawn venues—with a fifth coming in the second phase of the resort’s transformation in 2017—that can be used for lobster bakes, oversized lawn games and Corn Hole, and personalized events. (Yori had a group this fall that hosted a farmers-market-inspired gathering with local cuisine.) They are also great for team building activities like the Photo Scavenger Hunt, Team Boat Building, and the Arctic Mini Survival Challenge.
Overlooking the lawns, the terraces provide beautiful settings for cocktail hours and tranquil evenings with roasted s’mores. The Fire Pit Terrace, located between the resort’s two wings, neighbors the Ocean Terrace Salon and has been popular with guests during cooler temperatures. Indoor and outdoor venues can be used in conjunction for events, and the outdoor venues are open year-round weather permitting.
Making a departure from Cliff House’s luxury venues, Nubb’s Lobster Shack offers a quintessential Maine experience dining on lobster and local seafood. The casual restaurant was inspired by the classic lobster shacks along the coast, and its rustic ambiance and stunning views are unlike anything else on the property. “You don’t have to leave the resort to get a totally different feel,” said Yori. “It’s a truly unique venue.”
