A Winter Week in Vail Valley – Without Skiing!

A Winter Week in Vail Valley – Without Skiing!

Most people visit Colorado ski country to do just that – ski or snowboard. While we are huge advocates of those popular snow sports – have you ever wanted to switch up your winter activities when you visit Vail Mountain? If so, this blog is for you!

Outlined below are three winter activities that you can do without touching a pair of skis.

  1. Iron Mountain Hot Springs - https://www.ironmountainhotsprings.com/

What could be better than relaxing into 100+ degree mineral water right along the banks of the Colorado River? It’s a pretty hard atmosphere to beat!

For only $20 you can access Iron Mountain Hot Springs 16 mineral pools, with over 13 naturally occurring elements that make your skin feel oh so soft.

With a restaurant and locker rooms on site, these hot springs offer the perfect serenity to balance out a Colorado ski adventure.

Located just an hour away from Vail in nearby Glenwood Springs, these hot springs are a must do during your visit to our mountains!

  2. Tubing at Adventure Ridge - https://www.vail.com/explore-the-resort/activities-and-events/winter-activities/adventure-ridge.aspx

If sliding down Vail Mountain on a pair of skis isn’t your thing – try it out on a tube! Adventure Ridge is located at the top of the Eagle Bahn Gondola out of Lionshead Village. From 2pm to 7pm you can access the tubing hill.

Ride with your friends or solo – be sure to take a ride in lane 4 or 5 to get your photo snapped. With a magic carpet to transport you and your tube back to the top and a prime selection of classic rock songs – tubing is perfect for the whole family!

*Local tip – the Gondola is free to ride after 3:30pm, so if you want to save money on the scenic or day pass, this is a great opportunity to do that!

After tubing, grab a bite to eat at Bistro Fourteen, located inside Eagle’s Nest, and enjoy majestic views of Holy Cross Wilderness and Gore Range.

  3. Snowshoeing at the Vail Nordic Center - http://vailclubhouse.com/nordic-center/

For a low key hike in the winter months, check out the snowshoe track at the Vail Nordic Center. Following the golf course along the valley floor, the snowshoe route allows you to take in spectacular views of Gore Range and glimpses of the frozen waterfalls cascading down into East Vail.

With clearly marked trails and equipment rentals, the Vail Nordic Center is the hub for all of the best snowshoeing activities! They also have a restaurant and cross country ski opportunities.

If you need any help researching any of these activities further, our front desk team at the Christiania is here to help! Give us a call today to start planning your Vail mountain adventure.
