Since it’s too rainy and cold to hike in the North Cascades in the winter, get yourself instead to the under-sung Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture at the University of Washington—the state’s oldest public museum—which has an exhibit about the North Cascades called “Wild Nearby” with artifacts both natural and manmade, gorgeous photos, and a full-size replica of a fire lookout.
