How to spend a perfect weekend getaway in San Antonio

Michelle Robertson, La Cantera Resort & Spa’s Director of Marketing Communications and PR, keeps a pretty packed schedule. But when she has some down time, below is how she spends a weekend trip in her beloved hometown of San Antonio.

Things To Do In San Antonio, TX
Robertson recommends spending an afternoon along the San Antonio Riverwalk, where Rio San Antonio Cruises can take you on a historic tour of downtown before heading to The Pearl. “It’s an urban oasis,” says Robertson. “It not only has an abundance of great restaurants, but also boutique retailers to explore.” Art buffs should beeline to The San Antonio Museum of Art, which Robertson adores for “its extensive collection of Spanish, pre-Columbian, Latin American Greek, Egyptian, Chinese and Roman works. An entire wing is dedicated to its Asian Art collection, with one of the most coveted in the United States with over 1,500 works.” The museum also offers family days and child-friendly activities, so everyone can get in on the fun.

Where To Eat And Drink In San Antonio, TX
Though she might work at the property, Robertson adores its signature restaurant, which happens to be called Signature. “With Chef Andrew Weissman at the helm, it’s one of the my favorites places to dine,” says Robertson. “It offers a beguiling menu, featuring contemporary interpretations of classic dishes with Texas touches that include dove and venison dishes, Gulf seafood and house-aged beef.” For well-crafted cocktails, she like to unwind at Sire Bar, which is located just off the lobby at La Cantera: “The lounge features signature cocktails, a wide range of spirits, and delicious charcuterie offerings and small bites from the adjacent Bocado.” Located in the heart of Alamo Heights, the charming Bird Bakery prides itself in making everything from scratch, every morning. From pimento cheese popovers to meyer lemon pound cake, there’s something for every palate. Even better? If there’s any leftovers at closing time, they’re donated to local charities.

Where To Shop In San Antonio, TX
“For serious shopping, I recommend The Shops at La Cantera, an open air retail center anchored by Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Dillard’s and Macy’s,” says Robertson. “The property also showcases more than 150 retailers, including a Main Street with a variety of eateries, lots of water elements, and beautiful Texas landscape.”
