Washington DC’s Top Book Store

This special destination is rich in history

There’s no shortage of terrific bookstores in our nation’s capital, but the title of best arguably belongs to Kramerbooks in Dupont Circle. Open since the Bicentennial celebrations of 1976, this was the country’s first bookstore to offer food and alcoholic beverages, thanks to the help of the adjacent Afterwords Café. Today, Kramerbooks continues to pull in the crowds (a mix of curious tourists and local bookworms) with regular talks with authors, live music, and naturally, an ever-expanding and rotating collection of books. Night owls will also appreciate that it’s open until 3:30am on Friday and Saturday nights.
