We recently had the pleasure of catching up with Fitsum Kebede, the bar manager of The Carolina Inn. Here, he reveals what he loves most about his job, his philosophy on cocktails, and his spends his downtime in Chapel Hill.
What do you love most about your job, and working where you do?
I love making cocktails, talking about food, and meeting new people. There is no better place to meet people in this historic and beautiful hotel, in the heart of Carolina Blue.
Could you describe your approach/philosophy to cocktails?
Cocktails are like food, Everyone has different tastes and preferences, so finding the right combination and balance is key. The right cocktail will bring happiness from the inside out.
How do you get inspired to come up with new creations?
Seasonal fruit and vegetables, life experiences, vacations, people, even the weather of the day.
What cocktail trends do you see, based on what your customers are ordering?
Bourbon cocktails, like the old fashioned and manhattan.
Chapel Hill’s a fun town. How do you like spend your downtime?
Sport-related activities, checking out restaurant and bars, and walking around downtown.
