Monticello Wine Trail
Visit America’s birthplace of wine
What’s the first state you think of when someone says wine – California, right? Well, did you know that Thomas Jefferson was, in fact, America’s first distinguished connoisseur? Not only did he spend months in France and Italy studying wines, he went on to plant vineyards at his Monticello estate. Though they didn’t fare well, they served as inspiration for future area winemakers.
Now, over 200 years later, members of the Monticello Wine Trail continue Jefferson’s legacy by producing world-class wines. With over 30 member wineries, there’s plenty of scenic spots to visit and taste in region’s rich heritage and unique terroir. As for where to unwind after all that exploring? Book a room at Richmond’s buzzy Quirk Hotel.
