How To Spend 48 Hours in Miami

A hip local reveals his ultimate Miami weekend getaway

Area Director of Marketing and Public Relations Freddy Hernandez maintains a very busy travel schedule – but he’s proud to call Miami home. Below, Hernandez reveals his favorite activities to spend a weekend in Miami.

Things To Do In Miami
Hernandez recommends setting aside a full day to check out some his favorite local museums: The Vizcaya Museum & Gardens is a “little bit of Europe in Miami,” and he says the aquariums and views from the observation deck at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science can’t be beat. The Pérez Art Museum is home to an “ever changing collection that immerses you in international cultures and spike your interest.” Beyond museums, Hernandez also loves the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden for a peaceful respite within the city, and Wynwood Walls, where “the creativity is palpable.” Oh, and you can’t miss South Beach for “its energy and people.”

Places To Eat In Miami
For a sizzling night out on the town, Hernandez recommends hitting up Ball & Chain – “have a mojito and try everything on the tapas menu” – and Versailles Cuban Restaurant, where everything is delicious. Beer fans will flip for Wynwood Brewing Company, which offers up original, thirst-quenching craft brews. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, beeline to Azucar Ice Cream Company for the famous “Abuela Maria” and Knaus Berry Farm for the area’s best cinnamon rolls and strawberry shakes. Brunch lovers should look no further than Green Street Cafe, with its menu of original french toast and pancake creations.

Places To Shop In Miami
Hernandez loves shopping at Lincoln Road Mall in South Beach, because “it’s the best spot for people watching.” Palm Court in the Miami Design District is dotted with palm trees, public art by renown artists Konstantin Grcic and Matthew Richie, and swanky boutiques. Aventura Mall might be Miami’s ultimate shopping destination, though, with its seemingly endless endless stores and restaurants. Hernandez says, “this is a true full day shopping destination.”
