Kansas City’s Top Art Museums

Admission is free to both of these top museums

Kansas City’s claim to fame might be barbecue and jazz, but there’s terrific art, too. You just need to know where to find it. Here, two world-class museums you can’t miss when visiting the Paris of the Plains.

Kemper Museum Of Contemporary Art

This jewel box of an art museum specializes in 20th and 21st-century pieces by legendary artists like Jasper Johns, Georgia O’Keeffe, and David Hockney, but also features exciting  rotating exhibitions. Drop by the museum’s own Cafe Sebastienne for an elegant bite after exploring.

Nelson-Atkins Museum Of Art

This museum is frequently ranked as one of the country’s best art institutions, and you’ll immediately recognize it from its striking architecture and giant shuttlecocks on the lawn. Inside, the collections are expansive and impressive, with an especially strong showing of Asian art.
