How a Stylish Insider Spends 48 Hours in Charleston

Rose-Marie Swift especially loves the local seafood and chocolate

Celebrity makeup artist Rose-Marie Swift – she’s been the go-to beauty guru to supermodel Gisele Bündchen for years – brings a stylish, yet eco-friendly touch to her cosmetic line RMS Beauty, which is beloved by editors, models, and beauty junkies alike from all over the globe. But despite her hectic travel schedule, she’s proud to call Charleston her home. Below, the stylish Southerner reveals her favorite activities to spend 48 hours in Charleston S.C.

Things To Do In Charleston S.C.

Set aside a few hours to check out Drayton Hall, which Swift adores “for its Georgian architecture and pristine grounds. I love the old stories and the preserved home. It’s interesting to see something raw and in its original state.” She also recommends visiting the Old City Jail, which held some of Charleston’s most notorious and infamous criminals. When the sun sets and the city cools off a bit, take a leisurely stroll around South of Broad, Charleston’s most famous neighborhood. It offers spectacular views of the harbor, and is also home to Rainbow Row, a strip of colorful, historic houses.

Places To Eat In Charleston S.C.

“I never miss a meal at Chez Nous,” says Swift. “It’s the best restaurant in Charleston. and I meet so many interesting people in their quaint setting!” For a chill, early evening meal, she also likes 167 Raw, which doles out a fine selection of raw oysters and other seafood favorites like poke, shrimp po’ boys, and lobster rolls. Swift is also a fan of Stella’s fish and rice, and FIG’s fish stew provençal. For a more traditional lunch, she recommends the catfish at Magnolia’s. To finish on a sweet note, Swift adores Christophe Artisan Chocolatier-Pâtissier: “I like to buy extra chocolates to share with my staff.”

Places To Shop In Charleston S.C.

Le Creuset (also based in Charleston) is an all-time favorite, and its Charleston shop is one that I like to visit,” says Swift. “Stocking my kitchen with Le Creuset is a must.” She also loves the beauty boutique Pink Dot Beauty Bar, which happens to carry Swift’s line. For well-curated lifestyle products (think gifts, home, and beauty), Swift recommends Out of Hand, Ooh! Beautiful and Out of the Garden. “They’re adjoining shops in Mt. Pleasant,” says Swift. “The owner, Lisa, has a really creative concept, and my staff rave about her.” And for a healthy kick, she’ll drop into Earth Fare, a natural food store, for her dog Frankie’s food and so she “can grab a quick bottle of FiJI Water.” And if you need extra time to explore Charleston, make your reservation now at Wild Dunes Resort.
