Charleston Romance Guide

With its leafy, oak-lined walkways, historic architecture, and cobblestone streets, Charleston remains a fairy tale of a destination – and a must for romantics at heart. Below, our guide on how to make the most of a day with your loved one in the enchanting Holy City. But first, make the Wild Dunes Resort your home base by booking the special Valentine’s Day Beach Getaway package.

11 AM: Charleston’s iconic cobblestone streets are perfect for a relaxing carriage ride to set the mood for a romance. Though there are several local companies offering this unique activity, Palmetto Carriage Works (established in 1972) is the oldest, and arguably the best. Their hour-long tours will take you through historic sites and areas unbeknownst to many tourists.

12 PM: For lunch, you and your date should share some scrumptious Southern cuisine (think crab cakes, jambalaya, and fried oysters). And that’s when this dreamy downtown eatery enters the picture. If the weather’s nice, nab a table outdoors in the lush courtyard, outfitted with cast iron chairs and dining tables. Be sure to end your meal with an order of the luscious bread pudding.

2 PM: Walk off the decadent lunch with a leisurely stroll around the grounds of Middleton Place, America’s oldest landscaped Gardens. Even in the middle of winter, over 4,000 camellias thrive and bloom, creating an unbelievably beautiful setting. Book one of the famous Camellia Walks. The 75-minute tours are guided by experts, and will give you insight the colorful history of the beloved flowers.

4 PM: Now it’s time for some retail therapy on Charleston’s renown King Street. It’s lined with a bevy of locally-owned boutiques, but if you’re shopping with your sweetie, don’t pass up on the newly-opened Lake. Co-founded by childhood gal pals Anne Read Lattimore and Cassandra Cannon, the collection features adorable, yet super comfortable pajamas, dresses, and other leisure wear. And if something sparkly is more your speed, beeline to Croghan’s Jewel Box. Open for more than 100 years, it’s stocked with elegant estate and designer jewelry.

6 PM: To help unwind after being out and about all day, book a soothing Swedish couples massage at Wild Dunes’ Sand & Sea Day Spa. Feel more connected to your partner as talented massage therapists ease you both into a deep state of relaxation.

8 PM: Let Chef de Cuisine Read Wolfe and his staff pamper you with a meal you’ll never forget at Coastal Provisions. The menu brims with perfectly grilled steaks and freshly-caught seafood, as evidenced by the local ceviche, Lowcountry Cioppino, and daily Butcher’s Cut Steak, and the seaside setting couldn’t be any more romantic.
