Vacation Rentals Offer Value & Hotel Service Levels
Luxury vacation rentals have evolved over the past ten years. “Vacation rentals” may conjure images of property management companies and limited service, however a recent survey conducted by Destination Hotels & Resorts illustrates that the perception has changed, as well as the quality of the products and services.
Approximately 3,000 consumers who have and have not stayed at vacation rental properties in the last three years responded to the Destination survey. “Vacation rental” was defined as vacation home, condominium, townhouse and condominium-hotel for the purpose of this survey.
Of those who have and have not stayed at luxury vacation rentals in the past three years, the majority responded that vacation rentals can provide the same level of service as traditional hotels. The survey showed that guests who have stayed at a vacation rental property show greater confidence in their experience compared to those who have not. For example, 78 percent of respondents who recently stayed at a vacation rental property believe they provide comparable service to traditional hotels.
Both sets of respondents agreed that “space” was the biggest factor when selecting a vacation rental with 29 percent of those who have stayed and 36 percent of those who have not. Perceived cost savings and traveling with multiple people also ranked in the top four reasons for both groups selecting a residential style accommodation. A recent AAA survey concluded that a family would pay an average daily rate of $125 for lodging in a standard hotel room suitable for only two guests. At various luxury Destination vacation rentals, this same family would pay anywhere from $99 to $219 per night for a two-bedroom, two bath spacious condominium.
