Rolling Out the Welcome Matt for Pampered Pets
For pet-lovers, their four-legged friends are part of the family. And, when the family goes on vacation, they want to take Fluffy or Fido too. More and more hotels and resorts are providing pet-friendly accommodations to allow the whole family to vacation together. A survey conducted by the Travel Industry Association of America noted that 14 percent of Americans said they had taken a trip of 50 miles or more with their pets in the past three years - that's more than 29 million Americans. With the rise of creative new pet-friendly travel services like Pet Airways, what was once viewed as a trend in the travel industry may become the norm in the future.
A variety of Destination Hotels & Resorts properties have recognized this growing travel niche by creating pet-friendly programs that not only welcome your pet in style but also create a memorial experience for the whole family.
The Driskill Hotel in Austin, Texas offers its Pampered Pet Program so travelers don't have to board their pet or find a house sitter. The property has been recognized as one of the most pet-friendly hotels in the country and recently won a Cesar Five Dog bone Award. The property pampers both dogs and cats from arrival to departure. The program includes a custom Driskill pet bed, designer mat and dishes, bottled spring water, gourmet pet treats from 1886 Café & Bakery, a souvenir pet toy, "doggie business bags," pet-friendly maps of the area and more. A non-refundable $50 fee per pet is charged for all pet guests.
You don't have to be a French Poodle like Sofie, the hotel dog at L'Auberge Del Mar, to stay at the hotel anymore. Petite pups are now welcome. From Dog Beach to the annual Surf-Dog Surf-Athon, the resort's cozy seaside town offers a plethora of options for your four-legged pal to have fun. Pet packages include 10 percent off of the best available room rate, a special doggie treat provided by the Honest Kitchen, and a donation to the Second Chance Dog Rescue.
The Wigwam Golf Resort & Spa in Phoenix offers pet-friendly accommodations and more than 400 acres of lush landscaped walkways to explore with your pet. Hotel Telluride in Colorado is nestled amidst the beautiful San Juan Mountains offering miles and miles of trails in the forest to explore while wearing a dog tag, which reads, "I'm staying at The Hotel Telluride."
