Saving Lives With Used Soap - Part 2

Destination Hotels & Resorts ~

A few months ago, we wrote a piece on hotels in the Destination Hotels & Resorts collection of properties joining the Clean the World program, an organization that recycles used bathroom amenities from hotels and donates the re-batched soap to impoverished countries and communities who need it most.  In 2009, Clean the World collected and distributed over 230 tons of hotel amenities to over 50 countries worldwide.  As part of their Haiti Earthquake Relief efforts in January 2010, the program donated over 150 tons of hygiene products, medical supplies, water and other essentials to Haiti.

Clean the World is currently operational in 21 states across the United States.  Not only do people in impoverished countries and communities benefit from these hygiene product donations, but the environment benefits too!  During the first quarter of 2010, InterContinental Tampa donated 269.8 pounds of soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion to this program.  While this mass quantity of hygiene products helped people all over the world, it also helped the environment.  269.8 pounds of waste did not end up in a landfill!

Additional hotels that donate soap as a part of Clean the World are: Hamilton Park Hotel & Conference Center, Carolina Inn, InterContinental Tampa and Embassy Suites at the Chevy Chase Pavilion.
