Conference Collection Excels in Code of Sustainability
Destination Conference Center Collection achieves silver or gold status in the IACC Code of Sustainability.
Destination Hotels & Resorts offers a collection of seven unique and professionally designed International Association of Conference Centers-certified facilities located coast-to-coast. These properties excel in offering exceptional meeting experiences, which now includes sustainable business practices as recognized by the new IACC Code of Sustainability. All Destination conference facilities support the IACC code and all have achieved either silver or gold status.
The IACC Code of Sustainability states that the organization will be a leader in creating environmental awareness among its member properties and their clients. The organization does this by communicating the initiatives that they have researched and identified as having a lesser environmental impact; by encouraging IACC members to adopt these environmentally responsible practices into their business operations; and by continuous improvement to its management efforts; all with the goal of reducing our carbon footprint and environmental impact.
Destination’s conference properties implemented new sustainability practices beginning in 2007 through the company’s Destination Earth green lodging program. The principles noted in Destination Earth made it an easy transition to support and excel in the IACC Code of Sustainability standards.
With properties implementing dozens of environmental practices, following are a few examples of initiatives in the conference center collection that are making a difference.
• Hamilton Park Hotel & Conference Center recently installed electronic docking stations for electric cars in its parking lot. Four dual 120-volt outlets can charge hybrid cars like the Toyota Prius and Mini Cooper hybrid and cars that have been converted to use electricity. This unique program recently was featured in the New Jersey Star Ledger.
• Tarrytown House Estate & Conference Center in New York donates their kitchens’ waste vegetable oil to Westchester County which converts the oil to bio-diesel to be used in parks and county vehicles.
• The Inverness Hotel and Conference Center coordinates an annual ‘Trash to Trees’ decorating competition to help raise awareness about the importance of recycling and making eco-friendly choices, in particular during the holiday season. The program challenges local students to decorate a 5-foot tree using recycled or re-purposed items only. The trees are displayed throughout the hotel over the holidays and the public is invited to vote for their favorite trees.
